Talent is everywhere. Access isn't.
We offer fully-funded mentoring places to students from lower-income and under-represented backgrounds. Breaking into finance too often comes down to networks and resources rather than ability. This programme exists to change that.
The playing field isn't level yet.
Getting into finance is rarely just about ability. Students with family or friends already in the industry get insider knowledge, introductions and informal coaching for free. Those who can pay for application support get another edge. Everyone else is left to work it out alone, often without ever knowing what they're missing. The result is that talented students are filtered out for reasons that have nothing to do with how good they'd be at the job.
The Finterns Access Programme exists to close part of that gap. We give students who face genuine barriers the same mentoring, insight and preparation that better-connected applicants take for granted. The people who get the roles should be the ones who earned them, not the ones who happened to know someone. The mentees we back are high-potential. What they've been missing is access, and that's the one thing we can give.
The real thing, not a stripped-down version.
1:1 mentoring
Paired one-to-one with a successful intern or grad who recently landed the role you're targeting. Never a group webinar.
CV & application review
Line-by-line feedback on your CV, cover letters and applications from someone who knows what each firm screens for.
Interview preparation
Mock interviews and honest, practical feedback on technical and behavioural questions and everything banks actually ask.
Matched to your target
Paired with a mentor in your target division and firm type, so your preparation is specific, not generic.
You may be eligible if one or more of these applies.
- You're a first-generation university student. You are the first in your immediate family to go to university.
- You were eligible for or received free school meals at any point during your education.
- You're from a low-income household.
- You're care-experienced. You've spent time in care at any stage.
- You're from a school or area with low progression into finance careers, or you're under-represented in the industry.
- You face another significant barrier to breaking into finance.
Don't fit neatly into any of the above but face genuine barriers to getting into finance? Please apply anyway. We use judgement, not rigid box-ticking. If access is the thing standing in your way, this programme is for you.
